Today we celebrate MLK Day
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a revolutionary thinker who was way ahead of his time.
Today, we celebrate his legacy and the civil and human rights gained by the generations following him.
Dr. King’s way of looking at the world and ability to bring people together is sorely needed with all the challenges now in front of us.
The US is more divided than it has been in decades. We have become a nation of separate Americas: Red, Blue, Poor, Rich, Citizen, Immigrant.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
In reality, the American people understand what is right, but our political leaders keep making the same mistakes: Risking more wars, exploding our debt, allowing special interest groups undue influence, and kicking our major problems down the road for future generations to solve. Then they divide us further with inflammatory and faulty rhetoric. The president’s recent racial slur is part of that effort. I know that is wrong and will fight to do what is right for American families.
We need to rise above the hate and divisiveness, and ensure we all have a shot at the American dream — and there’s no better day to do so than today.
