If your Sec State thinks you’re a moron

Democrats should take no glee from the reported claims that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called the President a moron and continues to be undermined by President Trump.

In fact, the public disagreements between the President and Secretary Tillerson are a problem for us as a nation.

As a diplomat and former Ambassador, whenever I dealt with representatives from foreign nations, they knew that if I communicated a position on behalf of the Administration, that it was authentic and effectively coming from the President.

The problem with this infighting is that both our allies and enemies can’t possibly have confidence that anything the State Department says will be backed up by the President (or that when President Trump communicates a policy, that it is in fact a real policy).

This lack of certainty undermines our national security and weakens our alliances – and makes it all the more important that we have a Congress that can stand in the way of the worst decision-making this country has seen in decades.

I believe my experience in diplomacy will serve us well in the coming years. If you agree, please donate to our campaign here as we build towards what will certainly be a vigorous and important election a year from now.

Thank you as always for your support.
