Climate change is an urgent threat that we must address on the national, state, and local levels. The beaches, rivers, and lakes of Flagler, Lake St. Johns and Volusia Counties are among our most precious resources. These important parts of our local economy attract tourism and retirement communities and contribute to our wonderful quality of life, but rising sea levels are already threatening Florida’s coastal areas. Our beaches and marine life face multiple threats from climate change, offshore drilling, and seismic testing, and we must work now to protect them for future generations.
In Congress, I will fight to:
- Invest in Clean Energy Technology: Investing in clean energy technologies will preserve our way of life while boosting the local economy. We must work to preserve programs like the Clean Power Plan to reduce carbon pollution from power plants and methane from the oil and gas industry.
- Protect the EPA: I will oppose efforts to kill the Clean Power Plan, reduce the EPA’s authority to reduce carbon pollution, or roll back efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In Congress, I will work to end fossil fuel subsidies and will oppose any efforts to conduct offshore drilling or seismic testing off Florida’s coast. Such action will negatively impact our coastlines and marine life, our state’s tourism industry and consequently, our local economy.
- Protect the Florida Waterways: Water is central to our environment, economy, and our way of life. I will work to improve the health of Florida’s aquifers we all depend on, protect the St. John’s River, restore the Indian River Lagoon, and preserve the pristine shores of Flagler, Lake, St. Johns, and Volusia Counties.
